AC - Our results are in for our survey. They seem very positive. All that were surveyed as of July 20th indicate that they use small group instruction in the classroom. Most of these teachers also use literacy centers. Plus, many are willing to meet after school to receive professional development. What do you guys think of the results?
PJ--HI EVERYONE! ON ANOTHER SUBJECT, I HAVE PRINTED COLOR COPIES OF OUR LITERACY NIGHT BROCHURE FOR ALL OF YOU. I am taking my notebook to Broken Arrow tomorrow as soon as I'm finished, which will be later in the day. I will make sure Dr. Swanson sees the brochures. I've put your names on them. If I happen to get finished today, and can go early tomorrow, I will hang them on the doors of the reading clinic for you or Dr. Swanson to find. I realize you might not be coming to BA but sending pictures of your notebook over the web.
Survey--
I'm going to start typing our results paper and email it to all of you to add your part or ideas. The purpose of our survey, since it would only let us ask 10 questions, was to determine the grade levels taught and if they would be willing to receive additional professional development in the area of reading strategies after school. All that responded use small-group instruction with 50% using it 3 to 4 times per week, and 50% using it daily. 70% use reading literacy centers, while 10% does not and 20% say it doesn't apply to their classrooms. 90% of those surveyed (I hear Family Feud in my mind!) said they would attend professional development for further reading instruction and assessment. 90% said they would attend after school. 60% said they would like to attend once monthly for 1 hour, while 30% said they would attend two 30 min. sessions, and only 10% said they would attend one 1hour sesson weekly. 90% of our teacher population teaches in elementary school, Pre-K through 5th grade, while 10% teaches in middle school, and 10% in high school. Since that is 110%, I believe one person's school is broken into a 7-8-9 junior high, so they chose both middle and high school boxes. 20% of those surveyed said they were special education teachers, 70% said they were regular education teachers, while 10% are not currently teaching as of the survey. WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?????? We have to type two pages of reflection about our survey and its results. Check your emails. I'll start.
LJ - It makes me very happy to see that so many teachers are using small group instruction. I dont always see it happening in the classroom so I hope that it is. I have been conducting professional development for two years and I agree that surveys are a great way to see what it is that people want to hear about.
